Barry J O’Gorman FCA, BAI
Barry has worked as a business advisor for over 35 years – with a focus on enabling companies to deploy and support information technology systems which generate Business Advantage through Technology (‘BAtT’). Originally qualified as a computer engineer (Trinity College Dublin), he subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant (KPMG, Dublin).

He has worked across a range of industries, including:
Construction/ Engineering – reengineering all business processes, specification of information systems requirements, selection and implementation of global ERP solution – supporting significant local and international expansion of the business
Healthcare – CFO and CIO roles in hospitals and primary care environments; redesign of Billing and Collections processes, commercial negotiations with major payors; reconfiguration of systems to support revised business and clinical processes; preparation for independent quality audits/ surveys; rationalisation of complex interface and middleware environments.
Pharma: global refresh of all technology platforms to support roll out of enhanced clinical and financial systems; liaising between CEO, CIO and CFO.
Financial services: financial modelling projects to support large scale asset securitisation programmes; project governance in respect of major leasing solutions; deduplication projects to support major restructuring; investigation and resolution of issues relating to income recognition; due diligence to support corporate acquisitions; selection and implementation of new information systems and associated business process redesign
He has worked with startups, family-owned businesses, large publicly quoted enterprises. He cofounded his own business in financial reporting and Analytics – and delivered solutions to many of Ireland’s largest corporates. These solutions supported weekly, monthly and annual reporting processes – together with streamlining of annual budgeting processes.
He set up the Information Risk Management practice in a Big Four firm – and led this for 5 years. In cybersecurity he has worked with ISO27001, NIST framework and the Zero-Based Trust approach.

He has held different roles with a range of corporates: CFO, CIO, Non-Exec Director, Audit Committee Chair.
As a CFO he has completed a wide range of tasks and projects, including:
- Restructuring and building of finance teams
- Redesign and optimisation of monthly and annual reporting processes
- Refinancing of all bank debt
- Redesign of credit control function and staffing and training of same
- Design of Cost Accounting solutions
- Managing banking relationhips
- Reporting to Boards and shareholders
As a CIO in multiple companies, Barry J O’Gorman’s roles have included:
- Development of IT strategy and the supporting operational planning and budgeting
- Development and implementation of new project management methodologies – to drive improved deliverability and benefit realisation
- Adoption of LEAN across the business
- Establishment of ITIL compliant service desk – driving greater customer service and improved performance against Service Level Agreements
- Creation and role out of Information Security Systems – in line with different frameworks, including ISO27001, NIST and CCS Controls.
- Migration of wide range of applications from ‘on prem’ to cloud – development and implementation of new governance structures to support this
- Delivery of Analytics solutions to support financial and operational management – with elimination of multiple, complex spreadsheet centric solutions.
- Development and implementation of Data Architectures – to ensure analytics solutions are both scalable and sustainable.
Operating at Board Level, his roles have covered:
- Senior executive appointments
- Review/ approval of corporate strategy
- Acquisitions and disposals of business entities
- Chairing audit and risk committees
- Liaison with external auditors
He has extensive experience of working with Boards and CEOs to evaluate (and approve) major IT investments – and monitor those projects/ transformations through to successful implementation. He has lots of practical experience of change management processes and managing key relationships within clients and between clients and key vendors through the project life.
Barry J O’Gorman has worked at a strategic level – delivering both business and IT strategy, working with senior executives. He has practical experience of mapping out three-year programmes and prioritising projects within such. More recently Barry has completed significant projects with respect to cloud evaluation, cloud migration and management of hybrid cloud/ on-premise environments. He has a particular interest in Data Strategy and, leading on from this, Artificial Intelligence.
